Question
Peace to you, My husband and I are having great difficultywith this situation.  My brother-in-law has been divorced and is getting remarried at the end of this month.  My husband and I cannot attend his ceremony because we fully understand the covenant of love which is Holy Matrimony.  We are always praying that he will reconcile with the church soon.  Our question is this:is it wrong for one or both of us to attend the reception to keep peace in the family? We desire to serve God even before family.  I would be very happy to offer more information if needed.

Answer
Peace

dear Irene
I think you are your husband are on the right track. I would say go to the reception and be supportive the couple but not the ritual. Remember Holy Matrimony and marriage in the eyes of the Church is two different events; at a good Catholic wedding the take place at the same time.
I also suggest reading from the catechism: 1601-1666. It might suggest an idea wedding gift beyond just being there for the couple.

                                      God bless You and them,
                                               George

Also I study Franciscan History as means of growing in my lay Franciscan calling to holiness in Christ.
