Catholics/aplause during Mass
What is the church's position on applause during Mass? The priest at times have had the people show appreication for the childrens choir with applause. Just wondering if it was appropriate since we are there to worship God and not show approval.
I would say any applause would need to be reserved and quite rare. It has traditionally been reserved for special once-in-a-lifetime events, such as Marriage or Holy Orders; maybe greeting the Pope, and such. While we are at Mass to worship, I certainly do not think we are there to show outright disapproval of good, commendable, and faithful service; but if the children's choir sings on a regular basis, then applause every time begins to become excessive and disruptive to the greater purpose of worship.
