Do dead people immediately go to heaven /hell or resides in a temporary realm?
According to Catholic Teaching, among those who die in a state of friendship with God, most reside in a temporary realm for spiritual purification and being brought to the perfection and fullness of eternal life with God. This realm is called Purgatory. The very name itself comes from Latin, meaning a place of purification. Details that include Scriptural references can be found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church; and catechetical/apologetical details can also be found at www.catholic.com
