Question
Ok,  I thought I understood this.  Here is the question.  What is the difference between the baptism that John the Baptist was doing and the baptism of today?  Was John just baptizing to remove original sin?

Answer
What St. John the Baptist was doing was a symbol of repentance, looking back to the prophets of the Old
Covenant.  It was an adumbration of the Sacrament of Baptism of the New Covenant.  When Our Lord established the New Covenant after His Resurrection, Baptism became a Sacrament of the Church.
