Catholics/Friday Abstinence

Question
I was told recently that John Paul II had asked Catholics to go back to meatless Fridays until abortion is ended.  I have been to the Vatican site and can't find anything about it.  Please tell how to confirm this, and also why this would be the sacrafice called for.
thank you

Answer
You are not referring to the Catholic Church, but to Newchurch (the Church of the New Order after Vatican II).  Traditional Catholics maintain the Apostolic and immemorial practice of abstaining from meat on Fridays, in reparation for sin, recalling the redemptive act of Our Lord on Good Friday.
