Catholics/Grounds for annulment
Expert: Tom Schott - 6/6/2006
QuestionHi Deacon,
I would like to know if these are grounds for annulment:
1. If the petitioner has specifically told the respondent before and after the marriage that he does not intend to have children and they have a verbal agreement on that.
2. If the petitioner went ahead with the marriage coz just wanted to give the relationship a shot but had the option of divorce if it fails (coz both were not Christians at time of marriage).
3. If the marriage was not consummate due to the respondent having a psychological fear of penetration (marriage lasted 7 years with no children).
Are they grounds for annulment? If yes, how strong are they? What’s rate of success?
Thks very much
Grace
AnswerGrace,
I am going to forward this to my pastor, who is a canon lawyer and expert in these matters. It may take him a few days to respond, so I appreciate your patience. Would you kindly send a follow up question in a few days. This will reactivate this question, and I will send you the response. OK?
