Question
Hello, i was discussing salvation with a Protestant friend of mine. He was talking about the theology or concept of "once saved, always saved." I was wondering what the Church teaches on salvation pertaining to this subject. Is this the same? or could one fall away? Thank you for you time and patience

Answer
Hello, Chris!
What your friend proposes is the classical Protestant position of the 16th century.
The Council of Trent explained the Catholic position in contrast and opposition to the Reformers in 1547: Decree on Justification [Session 6].  English translations are available.  Henry [Heinrich] Denzinger began a published compilation of Church documents years ago.  English translations of his work are available.
Perhaps a short biblical reference might help you.  Refer to Philippians 2:12 -- the need to work out one's salvation in fear and trembling.
If you would like more, please do feel free to write again.
Best wishes.
