Catholics/Jew

Question
People always tell me that Jesus was a Jew. But if Jesus followed his own teachings, wouldn't that make him a Christian? Was Jesus Catholic?
I supppose this is a strange question.

Answer
The word "Jew" has a double meaning.  Some people consider it a "race," or what in Latin would be known as a "gens."  Other people consider it a religion.  Most Jews in the first sense are not Jews in the second sense.  Christ Himself said that He was bringing the New (non-Jewish) Covenant.
