  I belive the book you are asking about is really an expression for a type of spiritual experiance or a type of book that relates to that type of experiance. I vaguely recall the term in relation to somes books I read by st John of the Cross. The book is entitled: Dark Night of the Soul and Ascent of Mt Carmel. They are two of my favorites by a non Franciscan mystic and theologians.
