Question
Hello Friar,

My question:

Did a Mary Magdalene truly exist and if so who was she, according to christian teachings.

thank you very much.

Answer
Mary Magdalen is referred to in all four Gospels.  Traditionally, she is identified as a penitent, perhaps the woman caught in adultery and the woman who anointed Christ before the Passion.  There is a Office for her feastday, and she is referred to in the great Requiem hymn, the Dies Irae.
