Catholics/Meat on Friday

Question
Hi,

I realize that any answer will be just an educated guess, but perhaps there has been a poll which can give a rough answer.

Of those Catholics who refrained from eating meat on Fridays when it was prohibited, what percentage switched to eating meat on Fridays once it was permitted? (I'm not interested in those who never followed the rule--who always ate meat on Fridays.)

Many thanks,

Steve

Answer
Hi Steve:

Yes, I can only offer a guess on this question. However, the percentage probably started out small, but quickly grew. Today it is a rare Catholic that offers the sacrifice of a meatless day other than during Lent. When the Church allowed meat on Fridays it specified that Catholics were to offer another sacrifice in its place. This has not happened. My family and I have decided to continue meatless Fridays after Lent.

I hope that this helped you.

God Bless You,
Sal
