Question
Not I read Catholic teaching about salvation of people in other religions. You quoted the catechism, that those who do not know God or Christ but still seek God with a sincere heart and try to do good as their conscience tells them, may achieve eternal salvation.

I firmly believe this is true. But how can it be reconciled with the words of Jesus, “No one comes to the Father except through me”? (Maryland)

Dear Michael Fannon
God is rich in mercy, Jesus the "Word made flesh" is indeed that mercy for all humanity. His merits are the means for all to come onto the Father.
On the cruel cross by which that mercy flows, our Savior cried out: Father forgive them they do know not what they do. In the proper literal sense He was refering to the guards and His excutioners. In a moral sense could He also mean those who have true invincible ignorances of Him and/or His mission for all humanity. As a Catholic, I firmly say:Yes indeed His mercy is that rich.
