Question

Saint Boal or Bual

In a small town in Spain (Pozaldez) there are two large churches. One is dedicated to San Bual, 'a French saint' according to a guide book. I have been unable to find out anything about him, other than an alternative spelling, Boal. I have looked in large dictionaries of saints and, of course, on the Internet, but no luck. Can you help? I'd like to know anything about him - where and when he was born, when and how he died, is he patron saint of anything?

Dear Albert

I think I found three possible saints, that be the one you are looking for.Two i just have dates for and slight lead for more information one them, which I will follow up on. Write me again about a week to see what i find if anything. The third is strong possiblity:

     St. Baudelius
He lived in the late 2nd and early 3rd century. He was a married layman born at Orleans(in France), who labored to bring the Gospel to Gaul and in the end died a martyrs death at Nimes in south of France. He was behead. Some 400 churches are named after him in France and Spain alone.

The above brief bio is based on his in my 1941 edition of a book called:

"The Book of Saints: A Dictionary of the servants of God canonized by the Catholic Church: Extracted from the Roman and other Martyologies" 3rd Edition with added saints

compiled by the Benedictine Monks of St Augustine's Abbey, Ramsgate, published by "The Macmillian Company"
