Question
in discussions with fellow cathloics and approx 6 bibles, the internet, and the vatican site, we noticed that in some american version bibles and scepter deuteronomy 22:30 is actually listed as 23:1 and 23:1 is listed as 23:2 we are confuse as to how this can be diff from the vatican site and our bibles? can you shed some lite please? ty father

Answer
The official Catholic version of the Scriptures, St. Jerome's Latin Vulgate, is based substantially upon the venerable Greek Septuagint for the Old Testament.  The New Order that took over after Vatican II has revised everything in sight, including even the Scriptures themselves.

One must also be aware that the number of verses was not ancient, but first came in around the Renaissance.  The best thing is to eschew these defective "modern" translations entirely and use the literal Douay-Rheims version.
