Catholics/Seeking Reading Material

Question
I am a non-practicing Catholic who wants to return to the church.

Unfortunately, I know very little about my religion. A co-worker suggested the book "Catholiscism For Dummies", which was quite helpful.

Could you please recommend some other books that might be of interest to someone who is just starting to learn about the Catholic faith?

Answer
Hi Lisa.  Welcome back to Rome Sweet Home :)

I don't have many book references off hand, but I'll steer you toward general apologetics materials.

The last book I read that I enjoyed was Fr. John Pasquini's Catholic Answers, Protestant Questions: A Concise Summa of Catholic Apologetics.

Here's some excellent reading on the net:
1. www.catholic.com - See the articles in the upper left to start with.  You can also click the Library link to search their vast writings.

2. The Coming Home Network.  A great site for people just like you...who are "coming home": http://chnetwork.org/

And when you are ready, I strongly suggest a local RCIA program at a Dominican Church.  If you tell me what city you're in I'll help you find one.

Peace and Blessings, Lisa

I can help clarify fact vs. fiction regarding the teachings of the Catholic Faith. I believe that Catholicism is the best representation of the Historic Christian Faith and that this can be shown with Scripture, reason and history.

I am an ecumenical apologist. I'm not interested in telling non-Catholics why they are wrong, but am happy to explain and confirm what we believe and why we; from Scripture, reason and history.

There are some issues where I will have to politely agree to disagree with my non-Catholic brother in Christ, however there is so much that we share in common, I'd prefer to clarify those first. :)
