Question
Why are some of the cardinals in red and others in purple?
Also, I was told recently told that in order for priests to become monsigniors and/or cardinals they must pay a large fee to the Vatican....is that true?    It sure would explain how some of them get there .... and why others don't.   Thanks

Dear Maureen Kelly
Cardinal generally wear just red, bishops were purple. The rest of there dress is very similar.
Yes sadly in the past some have paid money to get those titles, its called the sin of simony. If discovered, they are generally striped of title and duties, and were often excommicated until they did public penance.
