Question
Dear Fr. Tim,

Thank you, Thank you Father for helping me may God richly bless you in your life + I have at least three more questions to ask you. Are we our faith is it really founded by Jesus Christ himself? Is the pope really blessed by God and not the antichrist as many say? Is our faith the only true church that fits with the bible? Is it essential to have a roman catholic husband or boyfriend if I am to stay in my faith. I dont want to have interfaith problems. I want my future family to be of God you known. Can you help me again? :-(

Answer
Dear Jacqueline:

Thank you for your questions.
1. Jesus Christ founded the Catholic Church when He said: "You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, etc." (Mt 16:18)
2. The Pope is the Successor of St. Peter.  He is blessed with the charism of authority given to St. Peter by Jesus Christ Who prayed for Peter that his "faith would be strengthened, and having been converted, he would confirm his brothers" (Gospel of John).  Many say many things against the Pope and the Catholic Church; I suppose that if everybody believed the Catholic Church, then they would all be Catholics, right?  So, as it is, there are many people who are not Catholic, and many of those feel that they must "justify" their position to stay out of the Catholic Church.
3. The Catholic Church basically gives us the Bible through Holy Tradition.  It was early Catholic Bishops (the Apostles) and Evangelists who wrote the New Testament of the Bible under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.  The Church in Council by the Authority of the Holy Spirit declared for the Church which books were to comprise the Bible.
4. (You said 3): I think for you or anybody having a Roman Catholic Husband or Fiancee is very helpful for staying strong in the Faith.  There are interfaith problems and difficulties even between those with the best intentions.  I would always recommend most strongly that Catholics marry Catholics as a general rule.

Past/Present Clients
I serve 3-small, rural Parish Communities in Easter North Dakota
I converted to the Roman Catholic Church in 1981, at the age of 15. Over the years I have done work as an organist, cantor, and choir director for the Latin Rite (English & Latin) Mass (Liturgy of the Eucharist), and even for the Hours of the Divine Office. I have worked as a cantor for a Melkite Byzantine Catholic Church. Presently my pastoral and administrative duties as a Catholic Priest do not allow me as much time as I used to have to devote to Sacred Music; but for my weekend Masses and Solemnities within my Tri-Parish, I offer High Sung Mass in English. Weekday Mass is typically Low Mass (recited Mass) in English, though on occasion I will offer the "Tridentine Mass" in Latin, which I usually offer on my "Day Off", as well. And now, in light of the "Motu Proprio" by his Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI placing the extraordinary usage of the Roman Rite back into the mainstream of the Catholic Church, I have been offering a regularly scheduled SUN, 2:00 PM Tridentine Latin Mass with a community of the faithful that has a stable existence.
