Question
Hello, My parents bought a gold piece of jewelry while in Europe last summer. It
a vertical rectangular piece with the cross and face of Jesus. I believe they
bought it in Italy and were told it was from the 14/1500's. The inscription on
the back is what puzzles us. I write it how it is etched.
         STA
         RAM
         ATE
         RMA
RETA or REIA. I'm not sure about the T or I its hard to tell. Any help
would be great. Thanks Mark

Answer
Peace

dear Mark
As a kid I prided myself in code cracking, but your question humbles me to a point
If you place the letters like this:
sta mater mareta it reminds me of Latin start of a prayer:
Mother of the Sea. I am not sure if broke up right or even spelled it right. If you want send me a picture directly perhaps the image might give me other ideas/leads for your answer.
