Question
what is the importance of writtings of st. matthew to the early christians and to the believers of christ?

Answer
Peace

dear Michael
Most scholars agree that St. Matthew's Gospel was the first written. Also that it was written before the fall of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. and it was primarily addressed to Hebrew/Jewish converts to the Faith.  Also that it was written first in Hebrew and later translated to Greek.

There are few Jewish writers and gatherings before and shortly after the fall of Jerusalem that attack it for get people to follow Jesus, who they say is a false prophet or worse.

I am willing to attempt to answer any question. If I don’t know the answer, I will look-up or pass the question on to friends for feed back. Beside Catholicism (especially the social/moral and the Eastern rites), I am well read on Mormonism and so-called Modern Christian Fundamentalism. Also I study Franciscan History as means of growing in my lay Franciscan calling to holiness in Christ.
