Question
Hi, I've been asking what Christ meant by love; we have love of God, love your enemies, love yourself.  Are all these the same type of love?  How can you love God without truly knowing God?  Love of self presents certain difficulties.  Can you shed some light on this?  thanks

Answer
Dear Marc:

Love is self giving. It is caring about others first. All love is basically the same type. It is true that you cannot fully love God without knowing Him. That is the advantage of the Catholic Church that we can know God fully because we accept the full revelation of who God is. One can only fully know God from the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Hope that this helped,
