Question
Do we take revelation literallY?

Answer
No, we don't. We do not read the Scriptures literally. The Church's position is that scholars must study the Scriptures to ascertain its context, literary form, historical background, etc. So our approach is to =understand= the Scripture deeply on its own terms. Vatican II also stated that the Bible was inerrant "only in those truths necessary for our salvation."
