Question
So what is the Traditional Catholic belief about the power of Satan (and his demons) in this world? Can we still be possessed? If so, how and why does that happen?

Answer
Reports surface still about persons' being possessed by the devil or demons.  There was a case in St. Louis MO that became the subject of a movie.  I have heard that Pope John Paul II performed several exorcisms.
Every diocese is supposed to have a priest [with piety, knowledge, prudence, integrity of life] designated for performing exorcisms.  Performance requires the permission of the local bishop. [Canon 1172]
So, the Church does still accept the notion that the devil is at work.   Recall the exorcisms by Jesus in the gospels.
I do not have any idea as to why or how possession occurs.  The fact is that it does but it is very rare, and not to be confused with mental illnesses.
If you would like more from me, please feel free to write again.
Best wishes, Jack.
