Catholics/what's up with these theories?
Expert: Marco - 1/31/2007
QuestionWhat is up with these theories on:
1) Multiverses/Parallel Universes: So far my educated guess is that ANY Universe would need God(=laws of Physics, Mathematical equations) So it doesn't matter how many there are or if there has always been just one universe. Plus I hear it's "junk science" anyways, not proovable and yet claiming to be "science".
Your knowledge on this subject, any corrections you would like to make to my understanding?
2) Neo-Darwinism and Punctuationism: My educated guess would be that no matter how living things developed; gradually/fast/or from random species, it was all part of a divine plan of God-that is obvious, if we look around us at the beauty and complexity of everything. Besides Neo-Darwinism and Punctuationism are still "sketchy" theories that aren't proven completely and even contradict each other.
Your knowledge on this subject, any corrections you would like to make to my understanding?
Thanks, I look forward to understanding what these theories mean, in terms of prooving, still, that Science cannot discredit God as a creator.
AnswerDear JT
The multiverse theory isn't a scientific theory, but only a philosophical speculation. In fact such theory has no experimental support at all. Basically in order to avoid the intrinsic subjectivism of quantum mechanics, Everett hypotesized that every possible solution may become real in a different world, which implies that there must be infinite worlds with ininite "Marco's" and ininite "JT's" who do every possibile things; for example there must be a universe where you have never asked this question to me, and a universe where I have asked to you the same question because you are the expert at the allexperts site, etc.
This because every possibility must be represented in one of these universes.
This interpretation is simply ridiculous and it is rejected by most (or better by pratically all physicists).
Anyway, the existence of other universes does not change the fact that our mahematically structured universe needs an intelligent God.
I am not very expert about Neodarwinism; anyway I agree that
no matter how animals developed, it is certainly part of an intelligent design.
