Cats/1 year old Cats

Question
About a year ago, just after our 2 cats were born, they got their FVRC vaccine, FVRCP vaccine-both doses, and FeLV Vaccine-both doses. They also both tested negative for the FELV test and FIV test. They also had a physical and drontal and strongid deworming. They are both healthy with no health problems and are a good weight about 10 lbs. Do I need to schedule an apt for both of them now that they are a year old?  Is there any more shots that they would need?

Answer
Hi Mary,

There are a couple of schools of thought about vaccines for cats. If your cats are totally inside cats then once they have been tested they should need no further shots. That's one version. The other is to keep on vaccinating every year. My cats are all totally inside cats. They haven't been vaccinated. This is a closed house. All were tested. I had two that used to get out and I made sure they had their shots but that was it.

On the other hand, cats should be checked for worms once a year. Cats get worms from fleas. Even though the cat doesn't go out, fleas will come in. And that is the one med they need during the season. I use Advantage for cats.
The only vaccine you might want to get them is Rabies. Nowadays it is good for 3 years. I hope this helped you. Good luck.
