Cats/I am allergic to new kitten options?

Question
My son saved a lost kitten from being hit by a car. Cool huh? Not so cool because while I like cats I am allergic to them asthma watery eyes sneezing between me and the cat I choose me. Other problems are...

Nobody wants him and he can't live inside.
No kill shelters are full.
Too young to release he maybe 4-5 weeks old.
Can I put a cat door in my garage door or would it be too cold for him in there? I live in Atlanta.
Help…

Blake

Answer
Hi Blake,

Sometimes the easiest thing to do about cat allergies is to take allergy medicine for it. They make some real good ones now. You can keep him in the garage but why do that? You will make for a very skitterish cat. He won't have bonded to anyone. Or are talking about making him an outdoor cat with access to the garage at night? Atlanta isn't too cold. I have a couple of ferals up by where I live and the temperature at night gets below -35' at night in the winter. They find a place to stay and keep warm.

To make sure that he views that area as his safe room make sure you feed him there. Keep fresh water and a litter box there. Also make sure he has a cat bed for him. Make sure you spend time with him. He will need quality time to bond with you. He would be better off inside the house. Less chance of him being killed. Make sure he has his vaccinations and is neutered. Good luck.
