Dear Kate,

We have a 2yr old british short haired female cat, who has been spayed over a year ago.  Over the past week she has become very miserable, low meowing and laying on her back, we thought it was because we had a stray cat outside our house which kept the neighbourhood awake for two nights.  But he seems to have gone now, and I have washed down the outside of our house incase he had sprayed, but she still continues to act as if she is on heat,.  But with her being spayed we thought that any urges should stop !!!

We have a blue male cat which has also been nutered and the precence of the stray cat did not affect him at all. Any ideas you may have would be greatly appreciated.

it can be difficult to discover what may have caused this change in behaviour. Meowing can be caused by many different things. i have written a web page about cat meowing behaviour here /cat-meowing.html

My web page may be able to give you some idea as to what might be the cause.

best wishes Kate
