Cats/cat ill, snowed in

Question
The 6month old cat has not eaten in a day and half. We cannot get him to a vet. We are snowed in. I have been bringing him water and making him drink. He has been sleeping all day and all last night as well. Any ideas?

Answer
HI Joyce,

Get some canned food and mix it with warm water into a gruel, and use a syringe or baster to trickle it into his mouth if you don't have any canned cat food use some turkey or chicken stock - but with NO onions (those are toxic to cats) if you have holiday turkey boil some in water to make a tick broth and syringe him that. Make sure he doesn't choke, just small amounts and let him swallow. If he goes too long without food he will get fatty liver disease. As soon as you can get to the vet, take him - he may have an intestinal blockage. Did he perhaps swallow any tinsel or decorations from Christmas? A cat toy? Has he passed stool?
