Cats/Neutered cat ran away

Question
Hi.  I have a neutered cat who has been with us for approx. 12 years.  I have another cat who has been his companion.  I keep them well fed with dry food and put wet food out in the morning and evening.  Lucky was faithfully here for wet meal times.  He has been missing now for about 3 weeks and I miss him very much.  The cats even have a cat house with a light in it to make sure they are warm on cold nights.  I have seen a cat around recently that looks like Lucky, but when I call him he takes off and hasn't been back on the deck that I know of.  He is very skittish anyway and would let no one near him except me.  Is it possible that he has run away and why would he?  Is it possible that the cat I've seen a couple of times is my Lucky?  I've checked the animal shelter many times to see if they have him but they do not.  Also, the entire bowl of dry food I leave out for my 2 cats (now 1) is usually entirely gone in the morning, so another cat must be helping Mr.Kitty eat his food.  Could it possibly be Lucky?  I am confused as to what may have happened to him and why he won't return if it is him that I have seen on occasion.  Any help you may offer will be appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Teresa,

I'm sorry Lucky ran away. I know what you must be going through. I am posting a link to an old expert from this site who specialized in run away cats. Read her old posts. They will tell you everything you need to know to get Lucky home. Good luck.
