Cats/2 questions -losing hair & shots

Question
Right after she gave birth I noticed my Queen had lost a LOT of hair from her tail.  Is there anything I should do?  She had Kitten Chow during pregnancy and nursing and kitties are now weaned.  Also, I see from experts on the internet that shots should no longer be given in the scruff of the neck because of a possibility of getting cancer.  All vets do not agree on this.  Does the shot in the shoulder, as recommended hurt the kitty?  I assume it goes into the muscle and not under the skin.  Which do you suggest?

Answer
Hi Susan,

The hair loss in your queen could be from a number of different things. She could have a food allergy. She could have a flea allergy. She could have some sort of hormonal imbalance. The easiest thing to do first is put her back on her old food. See how she does. Next would be try a flea remedy. But not while she is nursing. Then if that isn't it, take her to see your vet.

The vaccines in the shoulder are ok. Mine get theirs between the shoulders. And depending on the vaccine depends if it is under the skin or in the muscle. I have not seen anything about the cancer possibility. I know they changed the spot because cats tolerate getting it their better. Good luck.
