Subject: Cat Birth Control Pills

Question
Where can I purchase Birth Control Pills for cats? I live in a neighborhood that seems to be full of ferel cats. I have been feeding them, unable to catch them to have them spayed. I have been fortunate that one of the females snuck into our basement and had her kittens. The mother is so wild but I am working with the kittens and they are coming around to humans. Meanwhile the outside cats whom have all had a litter of kittens and we are coming up on three months which from what I understand the Mom's can get pregnant again. I can afford to have one female fixed at a time, but not all this group. I would like time to talk with a vet about spaying them one at a time and return them to the neighborhood so no new ones move in on us. Would appreciate some help in knowing where to purchase the birth control pills.

Answer
Julia,

Your veterinarian can give you a prescription for birth control pills.  Although, I am sure there are other sources, I do not know how to get hormone medication for cats without a prescritption.  BTW, how would you administer such medication to feral cats?

I laud what you are trying to do, but you need to get some help.  You should contact Alley Cat Allies

http://www.alleycat.org/

who have a tremendous TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) program for cats.

Their website is chock full of excellent information and  provides contact information.

Best regards... Norm.
