Question
My cat had here first kitten at 8am. she appeared to stop labor and i am certain she has more kittens to come. her first litter were born at night, so is it possible she will wait til night to have the others? She is not distressed and has gotten up for a feed and drink. what can you tell me please

Answer
Hi there.  It is possible that labor will resume shortly.  There is sometimes a break of a day or two, or sometimes even three between kittens.  However, it's not entirely normal.  Anytime there's a break of more than 6 hours, it's really recommended to contact a vet just to be on the safe side.  If she hasn't resumed delivery by morning, I would urge you to follow up with a vet.  Most likely, they would suggest an injection of Pitocin to induce labor again.  If the kittens appear too large to deliver naturally, and this seems to have caused the problem, an emergency spay will be recommended to deliver the kitten by cesarean.
