Cats/my cat act's like he's in pain

Question
Hi...my cat is an 11 month old male, neutered at 6 months. He is a very friendly, lovable cat. Always lets me hold him etc..  This morning when I tried to pick him up like I always do(supporting his weight and setting his hind legs on my arm) he cried out in pain and wanted down! I tried to see if there was any obvious injuries and see nothing. He won't let me touch him right above his tail..lower back/spine area and cries out when I even get close to the area. He still will let me pet his head and upper back but the minute I try to lightly touch by his tail he cries out.It seems to spasm for awhile after i tried to touch him too. He's and indoor/ outdoor cat. We're out in the bush (Alaska) and he stays in the yard and I don't think there are any other cats close by. I'm worried... what do you think may have happened?

Answer
Nancy,

I am sorry for not getting back to you sooner.  Remember, I am not a veterinarian, but if this persists, your cat needs to see your veterinarian.  Your cat is acting like he is in pain, most probably, because something is wrong back there, even if it is not visible.

Best regards... Norm.
