Question
QUESTION: Hi,  i have been feeding and (foster)caring for a young kitten for a couple of week.  i wonder if it is sick this evening, because it's belly is big and harder than usual(gas?) and warm, and it is unusually quiet.  can i give it pepto or something?  it has been fine so far.  today I mixed the formula with the canned food to make it more liquidy.  it has always been able to eat these sparately before today.

ANSWER: Hi Tracy,

Do not give your cat Pepto. It has a compound in it that is in the same family as Aspirin. And Aspirin can poison your cat. Has your kit had a bowel movement? If he has then I wouldn't worry about him. Combining the foods together may cause either constipation or diarrhea. If he gets diarrhea cut back on the liquid. If he gets constipated add water to the food. Otherwise I don't think the combining of the foods will cause any problems that you should worry about. Good luck.

Ciao, Karen

QUESTION: last question - promise.  Kit needs a home!  Best way to find it one?  I remember as a child standing in front of the Supermarket giving away kittens...

Answer
Hi Tracy,

I'm combining your questions here. Don't leave wet food out. Leave out hard food. Here's a good link about cat nutrition. It has a lot of good advice here.

There are different ways to get a home for him. You can do Craig's list but be careful. I remember supermarket kittens. It's not too bad of an idea. Just asking around friends can work too. Make sure whoever gets him knows they can give him back if it doesn't work out. That way you know he will be okay. Good luck.

Ciao, Karen
