Cats/siamese cats - in season

Question
QUESTION: can you please answer - do siamese cats come into season all year round. She is an indoor cat aged 12 months

ANSWER: Hi Catherine.  The answer is sometimes.  Indoor cats are more likely to go into estrus year round than outdoor cats because of their exposure to artificial light.  However, most of those who do go into estrus year round do so less regularly during the winter months than in the summer months.  It's wise to assume that an unspayed Siamese could become pregnant at any time.

QUESTION: Jessica

Thank you for your reply. The reason I was asking the question was - Miniie is rewgsitered and I am planning on breeding her. She is 13 months old and has come into season 5 times since June 2009. I have a stud lined up but she now has gone quiet the past month. I would like to mate her in November (nature allowing) but need to go away with work for 5 days 13th - 18th December. Provided she has been mated by then I do not want to stress her our by putting her in a cattery, but I have good neighbours who would call in on her 4 times a day to ensure she  is ok. Would trhis be ok, as she would not be due until January 2010.

Thank you once again
Catherine

Answer
Stress can cause the end of a pregnancy.  And Siamese do tend to get quite stressed out when their owners need to be absent for extended periods.  That said, I've seen cats go through lots worse trauma and still come through it to deliver a healthy litter.  If you wanted to be absolutely safe, it would be best to wait until after your trip to breed her.  However, if you could have a neighbor look after her rather than bringing her to a boarding facility, chances are pretty good the pregnancy would go smoothly.  If the worst should happen, you could give her one cycle to rest and breed her again on the following heat.
