Cats - 2 male cats fighting, none neutered
Expert: Karen Craft - 11/7/2009
Question I have 2 male cats which have been together for almost a year now. We had new neighbours that moved in with cats aswell which I am not sure of the sexes, but my big cat is very bad as he fights with my smaller all the time when he can get a hold of him. He is very agressive and will hunt him down where ever he is. My younger male doesn't fight back though... He is just scared and hides away all the time now. It is so bad that I have to keep them apart all the time now which is becoming very dificult. I just want the cats to stop fighting and go back to their old selves. Please help
Answer Hi Lientjie,
There are two reasons for the fighting going on. One, which you have figured out, is that they are not neutered. Unneutered males will fight like that. Neutered males make the best companions together. The other reason is the neighbors cats. If your cats can see the other cats this will cause aggression on their part. Until you get them fixed you can try a product called Feliway Comfort Zone. This mimics a cat's happy pheromones. Also make sure the cats can't see the others. Get them neutered. It will save you lots of grief. Good luck.
Ciao, Karen
