Question
Hi, I recently bought a new cat and I've had him for roughly about 3months and wondered what breed my cat is. He seems to have very large paws for his size but his legs also seem kind of short as well for his size. His hair is roughly medium length and also has a very fluffy tail as well. I've also attached a picture as well if it would help.
thanks,
Answer Hi Yoshi. Without a pedigree, it's difficult to say if a cat is any breed. 98% of cats worldwide are of no particular breed and are called either domestic short hairs or domestic long hairs (yours would be a domestic long hair). But based on appearances, yours looks an awful lot like a Siberian. An interesting note is that the Siberian does have noticeably large paws, and they are a cobby breed, so their legs may not appear to be as long as those of other cats. The breed is a naturally occurring one native to Russia, but it has been exported to other countries for almost 150 years. Their fur is felt to be less allergenic than that of other breeds.
There are some other long haired cats that people may say your kitty resembles. The Maine Coon is certainly more common than the Siberian, as well as the Ragdoll, but I think your cat looks more like a Siberian than the others. You might say your kitty could be a Siberian mix. Either way, he is a very handsome fellow!
