Cats/Angus in trouble

Question
We have a black cat who is under a year old domestic short hair who is very smart, but is too aggressive to adopt out. He is neutered.  I think he would make a great movie cat if trained.  Our/his problem: because he is so aggressive he can't be adopted so he has to be euthanized.  I wish we could find him a movie animal trainer who wants a black cat.  Call me at:(847)309-8814 NO TEXTING

Answer
Kenneth,

I was wondering how Angus is doing and whether or not any decisions have been made yet about his future. We are still willing to provide Angus with a permanent home and work towards rehabilitating him if you haven't found a place for him with a Hollywood movie trainer. I have dealt with my share of cats who have been abused, traumatized, feral, fearful, anxious and even one cat who had to go through drug withdrawal while I fostered him and I really believe that Angus deserves another chance with someone who doesn't have the pressure of time constraints and other animals needing space in foster homes. Feel free to e-mail me and let me know what's happening as I'm really interested in how Angus's situation progresses.

Thanks,

Ali

Kenneth,

I was so touched by Angus's plight that I've done some research on the cost of shipping this little guy to Canada. If Angus was shipped from Chicago to the airport nearest to where I live the cost would be about $150-175 CAN on Air Canada with Angus travelling as baggage, I discussed this with my husband and we've come to the decision that we would pay half of this. The other half of the cost to fly Angus here would have to be paid on your end. Another stipulation of the airline is that the reservation would have to be made on your end - we would work out financial arrangements if you decide to go with this option. The airline says that Angus requires a health certificate stating that his vaccines are current in order to fly across the border. Once Angus arrived he would be picked up by my husband or myself, brought to our home and we would work towards dealing with his aggression issues so that he could become a permanent member of our household. I really think that Angus has a chance to turn around and become a loving member of a family with the assistance of my wonderful holistic vet.

Thanks so much for taking the time to check this out,

Ali

Kenneth,

I have left a message on your phone, I am not an animal movie trainer but I have a fair amount of experience working with feral, abused, traumatized and even drug addicted cats with good results. I would be willing to offer Angus a placement in my home where I could work with him closely over a period of time. At under a year old I think that Angus has other options besides euthanasia and I'd be willing to try and help him heal from the experiences that have created his habit of striking out to defend himself with aggression. Earning Angus's trust will be the most important step when it comes to working with him, after that things tend to go fairly smoothly. I use treats, homeopathic remedies, patience, time and gentle encouragement to get cats in difficult situations to trust me. At under a year old I think that Angus's chances at rehabilitation are good.

Expertise

I am the proud guardian of 5 mixed breed cats ranging from 12 weeks to 13 years old and one purebred ragdoll. I have 20+ years experience working with mixed breed cats from a variety of different situations. I have fostered cats/kittens with special needs/behavioral issues. I have rescued/rehabilitated/re-homed a variety of stray/abused cats. I can offer advice on managing feral cat colonies, rehabilitating strays and finding them forever homes. I can help you to determine whether a cat is stray or feral, there IS a significant difference. Improperly introducing a new cat/kitten can result in aggression between newly introduced cats because cats are territorial by nature and they don't like sudden changes in their environment. To learn more about a peaceful way to introduce a new cat into a home with other cats please check out my previous answers on this subject. Proper nutrition for cats can be confusing, I recommend checking out catinfo.org which was created by a veterinarian (Dr. Lisa Pierson) who takes a common sense approach to explaining feline nutrition. Cat behavior and instincts are different from those of humans, I can help you understand your cat's needs so that you can meet them adequately and have a balanced, psychologically and physically sound kitty. Cats vary in personality, energy level and intelligence, different approaches may be required to achieve results in terms of training and interaction with your feline companion. An intelligent, high energy cat must be kept busy or they will make their own fun. I am NOT a licensed veterinarian and I can't offer medical advice. If your cat is ill/injured my advice is always the same: get prompt medical treatment provided by a veterinarian. If finances are an issue I will try to find resources in your area that can help with medical costs or make other choices to ensure the welfare of your cat.

Experience

I have fostered feral and stray cats, rehabilitated and homed cats that many people recommended euthanasia for. I am willing to make an effort to do the research and ask questions because I care enough to find solutions to behavioral problems rather than giving up. I have an interest in the use of alternative therapies to help provide the best possible care for all cats and I can say in all honesty that I've seen some incredible things happen for some incredible cats and their human caregivers when the right alternative therapeutic modality is used by a qualified veterinarian with expertise and experience in the field.

Education/Credentials
I've earned my diploma as a veterinary assistant with honors.
