QUESTION: Just wanted to ask if you have ever seen this sort of growth in a cat's eye.  My vet said it might be something left over from birth, but did not seem certain.  As you can see from the photo I am attaching, it is a nebulous-like growth extending from the pupil out into the cornea.  If you have any idea, I would really appreciate an opinion.  Thank you.

ANSWER: Kari Lin,

Remember, I am not a vet, but I may have seen something like this before. although it is not easy to tell what is going on from the picture.  It may be a corneal sequestration and, if it is, the cat will need to have eye surgery to remove it.

Does it get bigger and bigger or has it remained the same size? If it continues to grow, it will need to come out and the sooner the better.

If it were my cat, I would see a veterinary ophthalmologist.

Best regards... Norm.

QUESTION: She's only four months old and I just got her last week, so I am not sure if it's gotten bigger.  I will keep monitoring it.  The vet that has seen her thought it might be a condition caused by failure of certain tissues to naturally deteriorate after birth, but he was definitely not certain.  Thank you for the information. I gave you a 10 rating and nominated you for Vol. of the month.

Answer
Kari Lin,

Thank you for your generous rating of my answer..  But, I would like to suggest again you seek the counsel of a veterinary ophthalmologist.  It may turn out to be nothing, but with eye problems, if it is serious, you do not want to wait too long to treat.

Best regards,... Norm.
