Cats/Mommie's Mad :(

Question
I have a Highland Scottish Fold adult female, 4 years old. She is purebred beautiful coat and most of all beautiful temperament. She just had her second litter today 4-24-09. We brought her over from my moms house so I can supervise her with her kittens due to her not spending much time on the first litter and making me do all the work .....
Well we have a kitten that we kept from the first litter, born 8-1-2008, (obviously second litter was an accident). Mommy hates her first litter baby, I have never seen her run so fast after something in her whole life, hissing and spitting hatefully at he baby. Why is she doing this? The kitten is going through her first heat this month, could that be an explanation. Can you tell me why she is acting like this?

Answer
Jade,

It seems to me that she perceives this kitten as a threat to her current litter.  The advice I always give is to keep small children and other pets away from the new litter, especially in the first few days.

Also, having the kitten going through a heat is not helping things at all.

You might consider spaying the kitten form the first litter.

Best regards... Norm.
