Question
Idon't want to give Trixie away but this Spraying is driving me crazy. I don't know what kind of liquid she releases cause it isn't strong at all like cat pee but she squats down and lets it go wherever and mostly after we have been away from home for awhile She has been spayed at 5mo. Previously we had our other cat but she had to be put to sleep and this one looks just like the other but sure doesn't act like Her. Please can you help before I give Her away?????

Answer
Hi Sallie,

First I would get her checked by the vet to make sure she doesn't have a Urinary Tract Infection. If she doesn't then it is a behavior problem that hopefully can be fixed. You need to get a good enzymatic cat urine cleaner. I use this stuff but there are other different types out there. http://www.simplesolution.com/products_us/so_remover.html
You need to use this wherever she went. This will take away any temptation to go back and reuse that area.

Next get some of this.

PetSmart carries it. Try using it. You will also need to use positive reinforcement with her. When she uses the litter box praise her and pet her.

Using all of these should take care of your problem. Couple of other things I can say to try is leave music on for her when you leave. I find my cats don't go as nuts in the house when they have music playing and I'm gone. Country, light and classical all work great.

And the biggest thing you can do is get another cat. (make sure it is a very young kitten). It sounds like she is extremely lonely and grieving for her bud. Cats exhibit stress in a lot of ways but her behavior happens to be one of the most common ones. Get her a companion again. She will be fine. And you will happy. Good luck.
