Cats/My cat still bleeds

Question
My cat gave birth to 4 kittens yesterday. Today, roughly 24 hours later she still has blood coming out of her vagina.  It is not a lot but it still worries me. It her first time. The vet came by but found hard to specify whether it was serious or not and advised to wait for some days. The birth process was difficult indeed since all the kittens were brought forth around, meaning their had didn't come out first, but their down part of the body did before the upper part. She needed intervention to bring out the first one and was in a lot of pain. The kittens are doing fine and she looks relatively calm. Do you happen to know about similar cases?

Thanks a lot!

Ervin

Answer
Ervin,

It is not unusual for a new mama to hemorrhage for up to 3 days after the kittens are born.

I assume your vet gave your new mama an oxytocin shot while they were there?  Oxytocin is a hormone that will flush, shrink, and condition the uterus and also help with milk production.

Best regards... Norm.
