Question
I took my cat to the vet He's 3, due to constant licking, and straining to pee... They put him on an antibiotic and pain meds. Though he is using the bathroom some, but this morning There were spots on the floor and a grapefruit size puddle of bloody urine. He don't seem to be in as much pain as the days before, there was also some going over the side of the litter box...is this normal for this treatment or what should I do?? Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hi Tina,

Has he been on the whole course of meds? If he hasn't give it till the end of the meds. If he has finished them then there could be a few reasons for his bloody urine. Sometimes the type of antibiotic doesn't always work on what he has. He may need a different type. Did your vet do a culture? The other thing to consider is bladder stones. If he has blood in his urine after antibiotic therapy then this could be the cause of it. An X-ray can tell you that. Take him back for a recheck.

You will need to change his food over. Here's a good link that discusses various foods for you cat. http://catinfo.org/index.htm
Make sure you get a good enzymatic urine cleaner and use it on the areas he has gone on. This will prevent him from being tempted to use those areas again. Let me know what the vet says. Good luck.
