Question
I took in my step sisters cat, Scrabbles. she is about 3 1/2 years old. she was raised by a three year old and moved from home to home a lot. my step sister travelled a lot and the cat would be moved to my dad's then back to my step sisters over and over again. I now have scrabbles. She sometimes throws up hairballs on my husbands side of the bed i got hairball medicine for her and that stopped. i have another cat, killer, despite his name he is very sweet. they fight sometimes but mostly it seems like playing until scrabbles gets uptight and screams at killer and runs away. well, i came home the other day and she had pooped on my bed where killer usually sleeps i.e. my side at my feet. i knew it was her b/c the size of the poop. i thought she was happy she loves to cuddle w/me in my chair so i dont understand why she did it. i found out she did it to my step sister a lot too though. any thoughts?

Answer
Hi Melissa,

First off I would get her to the vet to be checked out. Make sure there is no physical reason for her doing this. Cats usually aren't dirty unless there is something wrong. Stress can cause this. And it sounds like she may be under a lot of this. There are a few things you can do to help her. You can try something called Feliway. It mimics a cat's happy pheromones. Add another litter box for her. Get this stuff, http://www.preciouscat.com/ You can get it at Pet Smart and other places like that. Show her a little extra loving. And ask your vet about using an antihistamine, cyproheptadine (Periactin), on her. It acts like Prozac for kitties. One or a combo of these things will work.

The first is to get a clean bill of health from your vet. Then try these other things. Good luck and let me know what happens.
