Cats - cat still pregnant after giving birth 41 hours ago?

Expert: Norman Auspitz - 7/8/2009

Question
hi my cat gave birth around 41 hours ago to 4 kittens however i can still feel 1 or 2 kittens in her still (alive i think). iv seen that you have said that it can take up to 48 hours however i am getting worried, she is showing no signs of going into labor again. what should i do if she does not have them in this time frame? The mother and kittens all look healthy now but am i endangering them by not taking them to a vets soon? thanks

Answer
Danielle,

By now, I would certainly take her to the vet.  The vet can x-ray her and see what may be going on.  If there are kittens in there, they have to come out!!!!!

I will tell you we have thought there were kittens left inside and found out there were not.  So, it is hard to know what may be going on.

Please let me know what you find out.

Best regards... Norm.
