Question
i have been hand raising this kitten for a few weeks now. the mother wasnt letting her feed or it wasnt taking any care of her.i have been bottle feeding her as well and helping her when she has to go number 2. her eye was closed when we first got her then we had been washing her eye out with warm water and cotton. my question is what could it be? i dont have the money to take her to a vet. her eye is bulging, it looks like a puss ball but i dont want to pop it. i tried taking her to a humane society to see if they can help but they recommend to put her down. she has so much energy and is full of life, i just want her eye to get better. she is such a good kitten. please any advice? home remedies? anything? maybe someone who can look at her with no charge or who can bill me at least?

Answer
Tashia,

Remember, I am not a vet, but, unfortunately, you will have to take the kitten to a vet.  The kitten needs an antibiotic ophthalmic treatment. If the eye is not treated, the kitten could lose the eye. Also, you will have to dab the eye until it opens, so the gunk can come out.

I am surprised the shelter does not let you use their vet at a discount!!!!!!!  You may want to talk to them about that possibility.  Unfortunately, without a vet, there is little you can do.

Please let me know how it goes.

Concerned regards... Norm.
