ANSWER: Joanne,

I am afraid this sounds like a lost cause.  By now, I would expect that the kitten will have expired.  I am very sorry this was such a horrid experience, but these things do happen.

Having the mama spayed is probably the best recourse when all is said and done. I expect, something went wrong in her pregnancy and the litter was born with some kind of congenital or genetic problems.  The fact that you had to hand raise the kittens was already a bad sign, and, as often as not, hand raising can result in disaster.

However, if the kitten is still alive, there may be hope.

Best regards... Norm.

Answer
Joanne,

I am both surprised and pleased by this kitten's miraculous recovery.  I would not worry about cat narcolepsy at this point. There is an old saying, "When you here hoof steps outside your apartment door, do not assume there are zebras."  Whatever this kitten's problem, you will probably do just as well to treat it clinically.

One thing you can do to help this kitten is to make a soup of one part of a good strained meat baby food (only ingredients strained meat and broth or gravy) and 3 parts unflavored Pedialyte. This will keep the kitten hydrated and keep those electrolytes in balance. Most cats will kill for strained meat baby food.

It sounds as if you and your daughter are angels doing great work!!!!!!!!

As to alternative medicines, the best veterinarian in the USA (in my not so humble opinion) uses mixture of both occidental and oriental medical traditions in her practice.

Thank you for your very kind words and, please keep me informed about your kitten.

BTW, I have been to BC a number of times and even to a place called Trail.  It is Canada's most beautiful province.

Hopeful regards... Norm.
