Question
Ok so my cat is 8 years old has some allergy issues. she recently started going outside but there is no stray cat problem in the area. she never spends much time outside and doesnt go to the bathroom outside(dont know if thats helpful)she shares a box with a fellow cat who has no symptoms and they r always in close contact, other cat is not showing any symptoms. she eats and drinks normally, lost a small amount of weight(she has been more active due to being outside) she doesnt seem anymore sleepy than she was before and shes as affectionate as always and doesnt seem different just irritated about her nose. the discharge is a yellow green color and only comes out of one nostril she's sneezing more then usual. also i think this may be helpful she was once attacked by a dog who bit her in the tear duct area and started to have minimal discharge from the eye and started sneezing more from then on(this happened about 5-6 years ago since then she had the same nasal discharge once(it went away) this discharge has been going on for about a week same as last time(it took her about a week and a half to stop sneezing and for the discharge to stop) the day i was planning on bringing her in it pretty much stopped). im just wondering if i should wait it out or call the vet what do u think?

Answer
Adrian,

Usually, yellow-green snot indicates an infection.  If her past history is that this seems to last a week and she is not noticeably slowing down, or off her food, then you may want to wait it out.  If its does not stop, a trip to the vet will be warranted.

Remember, I am not a vet, but I would be willing to bet she has a mild virus which has to run its course.  Since she has begun going outside, she is probably in contact with pathogens she might not yet be immune to. So, keep an eye on her and you other kitty, as these things may take a week or two to incubate.

Best regards... Norm.
