Question
We trapped a 3-4 week old feral kitten. Over two She gained weight eating canned and dry Meow Mix. She was playful and exploring the house.

Three days ago she became lethargic--just wants to sleep. She staggers when she walks with her high quarters fall out from under her. We have to encourage her to take food and water. She pees when I put her in the litter box. Poops are smaller and less frequent. A couple times she starred imploringly into our eyes. She vomited a very small amount yesterday and the day before.

We see no worms at her anus or in her poops. She had fleas but we used flea shampoo and did not get it on her face.

At what age is Fading Kitten Syndrome? Just during the 1-2nd week? Or does it happen to older kittens too?

We gave her a lot of attention and stimulating play. She seemed very happy and healthy.

Answer
Bruce,

At this age there are all kinds of bacterial and viral diseases kittens cat get.  This kitten should be taken to a veterinarian immediately!!!!! Truthfully, 3-4 weeks is very, very young and this kitten is a weanling. Until they are 8 weeks of age, they can get immunity to many diseases from mother's milk. This kittens immune system may be somewhat compromised through no fault of your own.

As, this kitten should see a vet ASAP!!!!!!!!!!

Concerned regards... Norm.
