Cats/peeing on the carpets

Question
I've recently moved, and my 5 month old kitten has started peeing on the floors and carpets all over my house, and will not use the litter box to urinate in! I can never tell where he's peed because he does it everywhere, so my house smells and I can't find it all to clean it up! How can I get him to use the litter box again and stop peeing on the floor??
Please help!!!

Answer
Kelsey,

At age 5 months, your male may be feeling his hormones and this will cause inappropriate peeing, in which case, it may be time to have him neutered.  Also, he should be checked for a urinary tract problem which could have been aggravated by the move! Do you know that pets did not live there before you moved and he may be over marking existing marks?

You might try Cat Attract litter which is supposed to attract the cat to the litter pan.

If all else fails, I would cage the kitten until his litterpan habits are back to normal.  Then keep him one room until you are sure he is using the litter pan normally.  You may also9 try having more than one litter pan on multiple floors.

Are you cleaning up his peeing with an enzyme based cleaner specifically for pet stains and pet odors?  These are available from most pet supermarkets or farm stores.

Here is a link to series of articles on inappropriate litter pan habits.  There may be further suggestions in there:
