Cats/Cat making grinding/ scratching noises when eating

Question
I have a cat that is around 14 years old. Not sure exactly because he was a shelter cat. He is generally healthy, although overweight. He has started to make a grinding/ scratching noise in his throat when he eats. His appetite is fine and he has no other signs of anything wrong with him. Any ideas why he is making this noise? Thanks for your time. Katie

Answer
Hi
all i can think of is that he may have something wrong with one of his teeth. Or perhaps he has a jaw issue brought on my old age. to be honest the only way to know for sure would be for a vet to take a look. it maybe something that can be sorted out or it may be just down to old age. unfortunately cats can cover up any discomfort they may be having so it is always wise to have them checked out if something like this starts to happen.

i hope all is well

best wishes kate
